Gastar Exploration Inc. is a Houston-based independent energy company engaged in the exploration, development and production of oil, condensate, natural gas, and natural gas liquids in the United States. Gastar's principal business activities include the identification, acquisition, and subsequent exploration and development of oil and natural gas properties with an emphasis on unconventional reserves, such as shale resource plays. Gastar is currently pursuing the development of crude oil in the Hunton Limestone horizontal oil play in Oklahoma along with liquids-rich natural gas in the Marcellus Shale and dry gas Utica/Point Pleasant in West Virginia. The Company is publicly traded on the NYSE MKT exchange under the ticker symbol GST, and its Series A Preferred Stock and Series B Preferred Stock are traded under the ticker symbols GST.PRA and GST.PRB.
