Overview
The British Orthopaedic Medical Students Association (BOMSA) is a professional non-profit organisation for aspiring orthopaedic surgeons founded in affiliation and collaboration with the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA).
Our mission is to enhance early, positive exposure of orthopaedics to medical students on a national scale. By building a vibrant, sustainable, and representative community of medical students preparing for a career in orthopaedic surgery, BOMSA are able to provide coordinated representation of medical students' interests in T&O. We champion diversity, equity, and inclusivity by embedding these core values within our organisation and subsequently the undergraduate T&O experience. Our network has already established excellent traction, with powerful marketing and advertising channels across over 90% of UK medical schools, thus enhancing the ability to disseminate national initiatives and workstreams to increase medical student engagement. We provide regular medical student representation to national working groups to assist the BOA and BOTA on projects with shared goals. Through our network, we additionally aim to drive improvements in the integration and delivery of T&O teaching in medical school curricula nationwide.
Our organisation also provides medical students with an abundance of opportunities for personal and professional development, with a clear pathway for progression established between medical students, trainees and consultant-led professional bodies.
