Overview
Build Reuse is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit established in 1994 that serves as the premier national organization encouraging the recovery, reuse, and recycling of building materials in the United States. We are also committed to developing social investment and workforce development programs in the deconstruction industry. Build Reuse is the host and organizer of the annual Deconstruction and Reuse Conference, the only conference in North America that focuses on how communities can create, develop, and support reuse economies. Our vision is to transform our communities by creating a building industry in which used and excess materials become an asset and waste is no longer acceptable.
Construction and demolition waste is the largest single-stream source of refuse in the United States. We believe that the present linear economic model that relies on the consumption of new products and materials is unsustainable. We know that the practice of reuse inherently recognizes and prioritizes existing community value. Reinvesting the wealth embodied in existing materials back into the communities from which they originated has enormous economic, environmental, cultural, and social potential. We’re imagining a world without waste - and with the support of our members, we’re taking collective strides to make this vision a reality.
