Overview
The Environmental & Water Resources Institute is one of the nine technical institutes of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is the technical source for environmental and water-related issues.
The EWRI student chapter at CSU comprises graduate students working in water and environmental degree programs. The chapter follows the same operational methodology as the ASCE student chapter at CSU; having yearly officer elections and weekly officers meetings, etc.
EWRI-CSU organizes bi-weekly discussion panels with water/environment professionals from both the industry and academia. The discussion agenda is mainly the topics related to the Environment; Groundwater; Surface Water; Hydraulics and Waterways; Irrigation and Drainage; Planning and Management; Urban Water Resources; Water Supply, Wastewater, and Stormwater; Watershed; and Domestic and International Interdisciplinary Issues.
Additionally, EWRI-CSU has recently launched a podcast series, The Environmental and Water Resources Podcast at CSU. The primary goal of the podcast is for it to serve as a means for the students and the faculty to engage with each other on matters related to research interests, professional development, and vocational pursuits - providing an online resource for current and potential students to learn more about the faculty and the work they do. The podcast interviews are not intended to be overly technical but rather casual. The podcasts typically last about an hour and are posted on the YouTube channel of EWRI-CSU. By posting the video online, not only the department gets the benefit by having an online resource to point potential students to, but the faculty may also use it as a resource to advertise themselves as potential advisors and as a way to disseminate information about their research.
Last, but not least, EWRI-CSU is actively involved in activities related to community services; professional and personal development; and fundraising.
