Federal Export Credit Guarantees (Hermes Cover)

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany backs German enterprises’ activities abroad by promoting foreign trade and investment and thus maintains their competitiveness, secures jobs and supports exports, which are an important driver of growth. The promotion instruments are managed by Euler Hermes Aktiengesellschaft on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany. Euler Hermes is the contact of exporters and banks with regard to all questions relating to export credit cover. Export Credit Guarantees With Export Credit Guarantees, also known as Hermes Cover, the German Federal Government supports export transactions in particular in difficult and high-risk markets. Exporters and banks can use them to protect themselves against payment default for commercial and political reasons. In many cases, an Export Credit Guarantee is necessary to enable an exporter to raise the funds required for a transaction. Untied Loan Guarantees The German Federal Government supports raw material projects which are realised by a German company or are in the special interest of the Federal Republic of Germany and are therefore eligible for support as well as the establishment and/or promotion of market-oriented economic structures abroad (development bank projects). Both promotion instruments contribute substantially to fostering economic growth and securing and creating jobs.
