Gió Nam Múa Lân (Southern Wind Lion Dance)

Gió Nam Múa Lân is a vibrant nonprofit lion dance troupe based in Irvine, California, dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich traditions of Asian lion dance. Founded in 2004 as a fundraising group for the University of California, Irvine’s Vietnamese Student Association, we’ve evolved into a respected cultural organization performing throughout Southern California.

We specialize in a unique blend of traditional and modern lion dance styles, drawing inspiration from the ‘south wind’ – representing our Asian heritage – and traveling across vast distances to bring joy and good fortune to our audiences.

Our team fosters a strong sense of community, offering mentorship and leadership opportunities to our members, encouraging self-discipline, and promoting respect for diverse backgrounds. We are proud members of the USA Dragon and Lion Dance Sports Association, committed to upholding the legacy of this captivating art form.

We regularly perform for schools, youth organizations, and community events, spreading awareness and celebrating the cultural significance of lion dance.

We strive to create strong bonds, not only with our own teammates, but with other lion dancing groups across the country. Gathering our influence from the Four Winds, we combine traditional and modern styles of lion dancing to form our own unique way of presenting the art.
