Gran Canaria has traditionally been recognised as a privileged destination for the improvement of health and well-being, promoting a type of tourism dedicated to relaxation and personal care through the progressive development of the tourist services and infrastructures necessary to make the island an international benchmark. For all these reasons, the Gran Canaria Tourist Board, the 'Federación de Empresarios de Hostelería y Turismo de Las Palmas' other businessmen of the sector joined forces in 2004 to create the Gran Canaria Spa, Wellness & Health association. The purpose of this public and private initiative is to work together towards a joint marketing and promotion of the island Gran Canaria as a nature and wellness destination, under the umbrella of a single organisation created to represent each and every one of the associated centres.
