Idaho Trails Association

Idaho Trails Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Idaho’s extensive trail system. Based in Boise, Idaho, we work collaboratively with volunteers, organizations, and government partners to ensure the conservation and enjoyment of Idaho’s backcountry for all. ITA focuses on education, maintenance projects, and public lands advocacy, promoting responsible recreation and protecting vital wilderness areas. We are committed to keeping Idaho’s hiking trails open and accessible, fostering a deep connection between people and the natural world. Trail Stewardship and Wilderness Advocacy are at the heart of our mission.

Since 2010, Idaho Trails Association has organized nearly 400 trail stewardship projects, engaging hundreds of volunteers across the state. Our crew leaders provide training and guidance, equipping participants with the skills to maintain trails using traditional methods. We offer a diverse range of volunteer opportunities, catering to various interests and skill levels, from weekend work parties to specialized projects for women, youth, and veterans.

Traditional Skills are a cornerstone of our approach, emphasizing sustainable trail maintenance practices. We prioritize the use of hand tools and a hands-on approach to trail work, ensuring the long-term health and resilience of Idaho’s trails. We are a vital resource for preserving Idaho’s outdoor heritage.
