BRIEF PROFILE
The Extra Virgin Olive Oil "Lydion" is a product of Karapatakis family in Western Crete between Platanias area and Kolymbari community. The olive trees are in a small village named "Drakona" , located at a distance of 20 km. from Chania, on a latitude of 74 m. , in a beautiful environment with mountainous, hilly and lowland areas.
Olive culture in this place is an everlasting business. Olive plantation covers almost 90% of the cultivation area and economy is based on agriculture. This is the reason why "Koroneiki" variety is marketed under a Protected Designation of Origin.
Non- irrigated cultivation system, without plowing or use of any chemical fertilizers was decided in order to decrease CO2 emissions as much as possible. Natural fertilizers from domestic animals manure and cut herbs are used instead, in order to keep an ideal nutrition balance in soil.
Pruning takes place with special care. Olive fruit fly (Dacus oleae) is controlled by means of insect traps or other organic means.
