Maristan

Maristan is a Zakat-eligible nonprofit organization based in Fremont, California, dedicated to providing culturally and religiously tailored mental health services rooted in Islamic tradition. We offer a comprehensive approach to well-being, combining professional clinical care, educational programs, and research initiatives. Inspired by the historical maristan centers of healing in the Islamic world, Maristan bridges traditional wisdom with modern clinical standards, serving Muslim communities and beyond. Our mission is to raise awareness about mental health within these communities, dismantling stigmas and fostering a supportive environment for holistic healing. We provide a secure haven for individuals to explore their mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness, aligning with their faith. Maristan’s work is driven by a commitment to accessible, affordable, and culturally congruent care, reflecting the legacy of Islamic scholarship and compassion. Through our outpatient clinic, psychoeducational content, suicide response training, and Muslim Mental Health Initiatives on college campuses, we are reshaping how Muslims engage with their mental and spiritual well-being – without stigma and within the framework of their faith.
