Nadal

The origin of our sparkling wines dates back to the end of the Spanish Civil War when Ramon Nadal Giró was given back the vineyards that had been expropriated to build an airfield. He decided to redirect the family business from a distillery (wine spirits) towards the production of sparkling wine. As a result, in 1943, the first bottle of Nadal Brut was born. Eighty years later, our vineyards, cultivated following the guidelines of organic viticulture, continue to yield the fruits of native and historical grape varieties of Penedès – Xarel·lo, Parellada, Macabeu, Xarel·lo Vermell, and Malvasia de Sitges. With these, we craft our long-aged corpinnats using the traditional craftsmanship of the méthode champenoise. Due to a more complete grape ripening influenced by the new climate reality, with drier and warmer springs and summers, in the 1990s, we began producing white Xarel·lo wines and the first naturally implanted Botrytis sweet wine in Spain. From the optimal vintages for sweet wine production, in 1998 we initiated the production of late-harvest vinegar using the solera system, which currently has an average aging period in the barrel of 15 years.
