We're Nottingham Tree Surgeons, a small firm based at St Nicholas Court on Castle Gate, right in the middle of Nottingham. I'm Harry Anderson and I run things day to day. Tree removal is the job we get asked about most. A tree might be dead or diseased, too close to the house, or just too big for the garden. We look at what's round it first, then plan how to bring it down safely. A tree up to 5 m usually costs £75 to £200, 10 to 15 m around £200 to £400, and over 25 m £500 to £1,000.
Pruning takes out dead, damaged or awkward branches: £50 to £150 up to 5 m, £250 to £700 over 25 m. Crown reduction brings the height and spread down so you keep the tree: £75 to £200 up to 5 m, up to £400 to £900 over 25 m. Crown thinning lets more light and air through the crown, and you'd be surprised what it does for a dark garden: £60 to £175 up to 5 m, £275 to £800 over 25 m.
Stump grinding is priced on width: up to 20 cm across is about £100 to £150, and 111 to 120 cm is £375 to £400. Hedge trimming goes by length: a 5 m hedge is usually £75 to £200, 15 m around £200 to £400, and 30 m £500 to £700. Wood chipping for 50 cubic feet of branches is roughly £100 to £300; for whole trees, a 7 m pine is about £200 to £400 and a 15 m oak £500 to £800. Site clearance is usually £15 to £35 per square metre.
