Research Triangle Energy Consortium

Research Triangle Energy Consortium is a nonprofit organization based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, dedicated to addressing national and global energy priorities.

Established in 2007 by Duke University, NC State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and RTI International, RTEC serves as a collaborative platform for discourse and knowledge dissemination on critical energy challenges.

Our approach centers on an integrated strategy, combining technical, economic, and policy expertise to advance solutions in areas such as electrification of transport, energy efficiency, and solar fuel development. We are committed to fostering innovation and informing decision-making through research, publications, and events like the RTEC Breakfast Energy Forum.

RTEC’s work is further exemplified by the publications of its Director, Vikram Rao, including ‘Shale Gas’ and ‘Carbon-Free Power,’ which explore key issues in the energy landscape, such as the impact of geopolitical events on energy markets and the role of small modular reactors in achieving a carbon-free future.
