The George and Dragon, Swallowfield

The George & Dragon is a family-owned, independent country pub known for its exceptional cooking and range of award-winning local beers, based in easy reach of Reading, Wokingham, Shinfield and surrounding areas. It has a traditional, relaxed atmosphere with warm tones, open fires, original brickwork and exposed beams. Outside, it’s situated in beautiful Berkshire countryside, with views and walks all around the garden. The pub has a vibrant local community but is also popular with visitors from further afield, as it makes for a lovely day out into the peaceful countryside while being easy to reach. The pub itself dates back to the 17th Century and is a Grade 2 listed building. It has served many purposes over the years – being a coach house around the turn of the 20th Century, before becoming an excellent watering hole. Since then, the work of the chefs over the past 20 years or so has earned it a reputation as a gastro-pub.
