The Horse & Jockey is one of Chorlton’s most iconic pubs — a historic landmark that has stood on Chorlton Green for centuries. First opening as a pub in 1793, it has hosted everything from village fêtes to local ceremonies and remains a symbol of the area’s rich heritage. In October 2025, The Horse & Jockey begins a new chapter as a modern gastropub, reimagined by the team behind The Black Friar in Salford. Our mission is to honour the heritage of this Grade II listed building while creating a new dining destination in Chorlton that celebrates great food, drink, and hospitality. Led by Executive Chef Ben Chaplin, our kitchen will deliver seasonal menus built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the best of British produce. Diners can expect comforting classics alongside inventive new dishes, evolving with the seasons. To complement the food, guests will enjoy award-winning Joseph Holt ales, a curated wine list designed for pairing, a brand-new cocktail menu, and elevated bar snacks. The Horse & Jockey will be a pub for every occasion: a Sunday roast after a walk on the Green, relaxed midweek dining, after-work drinks, or milestone celebrations. With heritage interiors, cosy furnishings, and a warm welcome, we aim to create a space where everyone feels at home. Owner Neil Burke and Chef Ben Chaplin bring proven expertise in restoring historic venues and delivering exceptional hospitality. After transforming The Black Friar from a long-abandoned site into one of Manchester’s most-loved pubs, they are excited to bring the same passion to Chorlton.
