Utah Historical Society

The Utah Historical Society is a public history organization dedicated to sharing the history of Utah through scholarship, research, library & collections, and public engagement. Established in 1897, the Society plays a vital role in preserving and interpreting Utah’s rich past, fostering curiosity about the state’s diverse heritage. With a focus on research, preservation, and public outreach, we provide resources for educators, researchers, and the general public. Our ongoing initiatives, including the Utah Historical Quarterly and the Historic License Plate program, contribute to a deeper understanding of Utah’s unique story. Looking ahead, the Utah Historical Society is excited to expand its reach with the upcoming Museum of Utah, slated to open in 2026, further solidifying its commitment to making Utah’s history accessible to all.
