Warwick Rail Challenge

Warwick Rail Challenge is a dedicated University of Warwick engineering project, based in Coventry, West Midlands, focused on designing and manufacturing a fifth-scale locomotive to compete in the prestigious IMechE Railway Challenge. Rooted in a 2014 initiative, this project, supported by the Warwick Manufacturing Group, provides Master’s engineering students with invaluable hands-on experience in railway engineering, light rail, and innovative technologies. The team’s commitment to continuous improvement and optimization, demonstrated by the 2024 team’s early success with a fully functional locomotive design by February, reflects a dedication to pushing the boundaries of railway innovation. Warwick Rail Challenge fosters a collaborative environment, combining academic guidance with the enthusiasm of extra-curricular students, and is supported by university resources.
