YES GLOBAL INITIATIVE

GLOBAL INITIATIVE FOR YOUNG ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS: (YES GLOBAL INITIATIVE) - A grass root Youth-oriented Not-for-Profit Environmental Organization founded in 2020, with an aim of Connecting with and Empowering the Youth in Uganda with Knowledge, Skills and Opportunities relevant for activating and boosting their Environmental Action YES Global Initiative was founded in Nakulabye, a Kampala suburb during the first covid19 lockdown in 2020 by a young environment enthusiast Tusabe Richard following his “Green Afternoons” door to door campaign visits to ‘50 homes/rentals’ commonly known as ‘Mizigo’ in Uganda. On this drive, Richard was sensitizing the residents on “proper waste management” at a household level due to a general service breakdown due to COVID19 restrictions. He was walking the talk from the skills he learnt under “Waste Management” an initiative by YLEC (Youth Leading Environmental Change) through their Clean Environment Initiative Project (2018-2023). Most of the residents at the time were students of Makerere University who were cut off from returning to their homes following an instantaneous presidential announcement of a nationwide lockdown from Wednesday-1st- April-2020 which was meant to prevent further spread of the coronavirus in the country. Throughout his experience in the year, Richard appreciated and justified the need to connect with and empower as many like-minded young individuals as possible to carry the cross as the “STEWARDS” or “CARETAKERS” of our mother nature-hence the birth of the concept of “Young Environmental Stewards” or (YES) which saw to the formation of the Global Initiative for Young Environmental stewards (YES Global Initiative) in Uganda.
