Asphalt-Rubber Chip & Cape Seals | AMERICAN PAVEMENT SYSTEMS, INC
Service description
Asphalt-Rubber Chip & Cape Seals are comprised of Asphalt-Rubber binder spray applied at the rate of 0.55 to 0.65 gallons per square yard. Homogenously sized 3/8” aggregate is spread over the Asphalt-Rubber binder at the rate of 28 to 32 lbs. per square yard, followed by rollers that imbed the aggregate into the binder. The road’s surface is swept almost immediately to pick up any excess loose aggregate. In non-residential applications the Asphalt-Rubber Chip Seal is often fogged with a diluted emulsified asphalt to further lock in the chip. For residential applications, a Type II Slurry Seal is placed over the top to smooth out the surface texture. When a Type II Slurry Seal is put on top of the Asphalt-Rubber Chip Seal it is referred to as an Asphalt-Rubber Cape Seal. Both Asphalt-Rubber Chip Seals and Asphalt-Rubber Cape Seals offer long life (12-15 years) at an economical cost on roads that have alligator cracks in the 3/8” to 1/2″ range. The generously applied Asphalt-Rubber binder is flexible and is resistant to both aging and age-induced cracking. The Asphalt-Rubber membrane also seals off the road’s surface from top-down water penetration, keeping water out of the base.
