Il GIST, Gruppo Italiano Stampa Turistica, si è costituito nel 1991 ed è operativo dal febbraio 1992. È l’unica associazione italiana di giornalisti di Turismo che, per tipo di attività svolta, professionalità dei soci che vi appartengono e rispetto delle regole deontologiche, ha il riconoscimento ufficiale della FNSI (Federazione Nazionale della Stampa Italiana), di cui è gruppo di specializzazione. Scopi del GIST sono: a) riunire i giornalisti che si occupano delle problematiche del turismo da almeno due anni in quotidiani e periodici, pubblicazioni specializzate, agenzie di stampa, radio e televisioni, case editrici specializzate in turismo, o che svolgano attività di ufficio stampa e/o consulenza per la comunicazione nel settore turistico; b) difendere la libertà e il pluralismo dell’informazione, promuovendo e qualificando la presenza di argomenti inerenti al turismo nei mezzi di informazione; c) mantenere e sviluppare i contatti con organismi pubblici, privati e associativi del settore; d) organizzare convegni , seminari, corsi o iniziative di studio per l’aggiornamento e la qualificazione dei soci, favorendone la preparazione professionale; e) tutelare gli interessi morali e materiali dei soci, impegnandoli al rispetto delle norme deontologiche della professione giornalistica, alla corretta applicazione del Contratto Nazionale di Lavoro giornalistico e al rispetto dei compensi minimi inderogabili previsti dal tariffario dell’Ordine dei Giornalisti.
