The gastric sleeve, or vertical sleeve gastrectomy, is a minimally invasive weight loss surgery that involves removing approximately 75–80% of the stomach. This creates a smaller, sleeve-shaped stomach that holds less food, leading to reduced calorie intake and weight loss. The procedure also decreases hunger by removing the part of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone, ghrelin.
