È un negozio storico, di quelli che contribuiscono a raccontare gli avvenimenti di una città. A porre le basi dell’attività, nel lontano 1899, è stato Oreste Troso, un ventenne leccese, appassionato ed esperto di oreficeria. L’esercizio nasce in via Augusto Imperatore, sempre nel centro della città e, soltanto in seguito, nel 1932, si sposta sotto i portici di piazza S. Oronzo, di fronte all’anfiteatro d’epoca romana.
La città cambia rapidamente, affronta gli anni bui della guerra, dell’autarchia, della ricostruzione, ma la Gioielleria Oreste Troso rimane un punto fermo. L’insegna è sempre lì, a testimoniare un’attività che prosegue incessante nel segno della tradizione. Nel 1959 è il nipote del fondatore, Mario Molendini, ad assumere la direzione dell’azienda e a rinnovarne l’aspetto. Assieme alla moglie Luisella arricchisce la scelta degli oggetti, proponendo articoli accuratamente selezionati nel settore della gioielleria, dell’argenteria, dell’orologeria e dell’articolo da regalo. Accanto a Mario e Luisella ci sono i figli Francesca e Gianluca, gemmologo IGI, con la moglie Alessandra.
